As the owner of many technical winter jackets, I got this one to replace a down micro-puff (using in the general sense, not referring to the patagonia) jacket that had accumulated too many tears and patches over the years. The pros: 1. Nice fit, true to size, I'm 5'10, pretty slender at 150 lbs, ordered a Small and it fits great with room for layers underneath. 2. Very warm for its weight, which is very light, actually lighter than the micropuff I was replacing 3. *Not* very compressible at all for its size. This was my first jacket with the "PlumaFill" material, and I'm impressed with the warmth, but not with the packability of the jacket compared to down. I would appreciate it if Backcountry required vendors to put the claimed packed-size in liters for *all* technical jackets. This is an important metric that would be very useful. 4. I see some commentators complaining about durability. The outer fabric seems like the same material you'd see on any outdoor jacket that is trying to save weight. Yes, it might rip if you nick it with an ice-tool or climb a chimney. Put some patches on it and get over it, imo. This isn't the jacket you want if you just need a daily-driver to wear around the city. I'll be keeping the jacket and be using it mostly as the pack-jacket for ski-tours to put on during transitions/lunch breaks, and for spring ice climbing when its not necessary to bring the true belay parkas. It might become the multi-pitch "oh crap" jacket, but haven't decided if it's packable enough or not. I think if this jacket was true down it would be really perfect for this.

TLDR: buy a different jacket Pros: lightweight, compresses well, wind and water resistant, nice roomy fit for climbing/skiing. Cons: this is the least durable Jacket I have ever owned, it tears very easily. To pack the jacket into it's pocket, it is extremely tight, to the point that it rips material and is very difficult to zip. This makes the feature useless for climbing where you would want to clip it to your harness between pitches because you spend so much time wrestling it.

I wore this jacket today for the first time in 40 degree weather. Although it feels a bit flimsy it kept me warm. The hood has a nice fit with or without a hat. The side pockets are in a good location for hand warming and are fairly deep. There?s better coats at $329 than the DAS light but it?s nice enough. I wouldn?t buy another, though. Not enough warmth. The Patagonia Fitz Roy is a much nicer, warmer coat for only $70 more..
