The Spektrum SLT3 3-Channel SLT Surface Radio is perfect for backyard bashers, crawlers, or drivers looking to get the most from a tight hobby budget. The 3-channel SLT3 transmitter with 2.4GHz SLT technology offers all you need for dependable, confident control. I was late to the Spektrum band wagon, but I'm impressed, nonetheless. The radio feels great and operates very smoothly. I actually bought a second receiver to use this one radio in two trucks that I own. A Savage, and a Vaterra Ascender. Works perfectly in both trucks, and I've had zero issues with it. Using only 4 AA batteries keeps the radio light and the steering wheel feels solid in your fingertips. I think I'm still using the same AA's I installed when I bought this radio!

Spektrum RC SLT3 3-Channel SLT Surface Radio w/SR315 Receiver
This transmitter is a perfect entry level transmitter. It’s cheap, probably could be cheaper, but cheap enough. It is not confusing. The best part is that it has a throttle limit switch for 50/75/100 percent throttle which is great for my six year old. As another person mentioned, the power switch is recessed which makes it slightly inconvenient but not unmanageable. Overall this is great and the quality is much better than a mega cheap Amazon unit.

I did not buy this radio directly, but it came equipped in my Arrma Fireteam. For a cheap RTR transmitter it gets the job done, but it does feel about as cheap as any pack-in RTR transmitter. The worst part of the design is the power button. It is recessed into a hole and only about 1/4" wide. If you have adult-size fingers, it is difficult to press the button and turn on / off. I can just about press it by pointing my pinky finger straight into the hole. I will give it a bonus point for having a steering dual-rate knob, so not as bad as the cheapest of the cheap radios. For high powered vehicles (like a 6S Fireteam) it would be nice to have a throttle rate knob or 3 position switch to turn the power down for novice drivers, but maybe that is asking too much.
