1987 World Champion - TQ, 1st, 2nd & 3rd!

The Kyosho ULTIMA Off Road Racer 1/10 2wd Buggy Kit turns back the clock with its return as the 8th model in the Kyosho Vintage Series! Kyosho has evolved this classic into a modern-day racing machine. First released in 1986, the 2WD ULTIMA channeled racing tech from the OPTIMA into an electric racing buggy that made an impact on the RC world. Consistent with the Vintage Series, the 2019 ULTIMA version has evolved in design and build to satisfy performance standards for modern R/C racing circuits and power sources. For example, the monocoque frame is made from aircraft grade A60601T6 aluminum alloy and multi-pin block pattern rear tires deliver optimal performance on modern off-road tracks. Full ball bearing specs minimize drive loss and combine with high-durability sintered alloy metal gears, slipper clutch and motor guard to protect the drive system while crash-resistant resin rear wing is also included. Revisit the nostalgia of the ULTIMA with this updated 2019 model.

Kyosho Ultima Off Road Racer 1/10 2WD Buggy Kit
Awesome bit of nostalgia! Built this kit over the weekend great quality and true to the original. Hobbywing Justock G3 13.5 combo and 31 tooth 48 pitch pinion. Plenty of power for the car in stock trim. Will need to find different tires and bit of tuning to get it to handle well. Overall a great experience and fun throwback to a simple time.

Kyosho Ultima Off Road Racer 1/10 2WD Buggy Kit
I just started assembling this buggy, so no feedback concerning it's driving and handling.

Plan is to use Kyosho's Le Mans 240S 15.5T 4WD brushless motor and Kyosho's 60 amp ESC, a combo I am already using in a re-release Javelin and a Turbo Scorpion. The Turbo Scorpion has a top speed of over 37mph (60km/h) on 3S Lipo. In wet weather on 2S, it provides a top speed of about 25mph (40km/h). Both re-release buggies are fitted with front and rear sway bars, providing improved cornering.

Back to the Ultima 2019: it's design looks about as sturdy as the other Kyosho re-release kits mentioned above. The servo saver with the possible addition of ball bearings looks really nice, much better than the Javelin's with the weak (plastic only) interlink between the two sides. Sadly Kyosho does not provide the sway bars in the Ultima 2019 kit, although the chassis provides front and rear fixing points. The front axles are a tiny bit too short to use the Turbo Scorpion's 2.2" front wheels and to secure them using a flanged nylon M4 nuts. The very narrow front tires (actually the same size as the ones on a standard Scorpion 2014), are wearing very quickly with brushless power. A very nice detail is the cable guide which goes between the ESC and the motor.

I'm looking forward to test drive this 2WD buggy to see how it handles with it's more conventional front suspension compared to the Turbo Scorpion.

Kyosho Ultima Off Road Racer 1/10 2WD Buggy Kit
This build took me back to when this model was first released. Fit and finish is perfect, and the build went very well. Top notch kit, and smooth, well made drivetrain.
