Will they take down a big white tail deer with decent shot placement?

Yet it will, they are great for deer. Shoot the deer right behind the shoulder in the heart and lung area. 3 people in my family shoot .223 and 5.56 with a variety of ammo and we kill lots of deer every year with them.

Are these armor piercing Black Tips?

No, this round is not the M855A1, which is really hard to get and expensive. This round is a hollow point, designed to inflict a larger wound channel when hunting, while also being loaded to 5.56 NATO specifications (higher pressures than .223 REM). If you’re looking for a plinking round with decent penetration, I recommend M855 Green Tip. It has a steel core, weighing 62 grains, and is much more cost effective. You should match your ammo to your rifles twist rate as well. Cheaper 55gr (M193) isn’t very accurate if you have a 1:7 twist ratio, whereas a 1:9 twist uses 55 grain ammo well. 62 grain ammo works well in 1:7 through 1:9, with 1:8 being the best twist rate for allowing use of all weights of 5.56 ammo (55gr-77gr). I know I went a little overly in-depth but it is something everyone needs to know when choosing their ammo and it’s purpose.

We did the Milk jug filled with water test. The bullet went thru 3 jugs. We Actually caught the round and it expanded exactly as advertised. This will be my ammo of choice for hunting this season. Looking for to taking my first deer with this ammo.
