Product Info for Western Mountaineering Flash Pants - Mens

The Western Mountaineering Flash Pants are lightweight down pants that provide ample warmth for many situations and could be layered with a shell for more extreme conditions. Western Mountaineering's Flash pants were designed to provide more lower body warmth than a thick pair of fleece bottoms with less weight and substantially less packed volume than any synthetic alternative. The average weight for a pair of these pants is roughly 180 grams and will compress down to about half the size of your waterbottle. These pants are made in Canada with 850 fill power goose down and an extremely lightweight nylon ripstop shell material. Features include an adjustable waist belt, re-inforced seat material, and elastic ankle closures to seal in the warmth.image

These down pants are a major improvement over the synthetic puffy pants I have used in the past for backpacking. They are warmer and they pack down smaller. Excellent quality in the workmanship. Glad I splurged and got them.

Amazingly warm

Very lightweight very comfortable could be used as a baselayer or outside when very cold I wear mine around the house. Made from RFD down at 850 Gil power they are very lightweight and compress to hardly take any space. So lightweight I forget I have mine on.

These are initial impressions, but these pants seem like the best option for down pants when used as a terminal piece. They are super light (even lighter than many other less warm options), but they appear to have just enough durability for kicking around camp. They are hardly fashionable, but I guess you can’t have everything.

They are very nice. They have a really good loft. They are very warm. No front zipper or side zippers. They have a waistband that can be tightened if needed. I would recommend them to be used for under outer layer.

Basic and functional

I ordered a size too small--returned. Larger size was out of stock, so I ordered the Flight pants. Flash pants would have fit most of my needs, but would be better with a zip fly if worn under other garments (same for flight pants). I don't think that would be an issue with unisex sizing in M & L--greater convenience for men, not inconvenient for women.

Q Do these pants have a different fabric on the seat? I have a pair that I bought a couple years back, and they have a thicker denier fabric on the seat of the pants. My gf usually wears them so I'm getting her her own pair. :]
