Why We Built The Silver Fork 750 Hooded Jacket

Packable, lightweight, and warm, you'll be glad to have Backcountry's Silver Fork 750 Down Jacket in your corner come the coldest winter days. This lofty piece can be worn alone, but also features a regular fit you can layer a shell over if the weather is wet and stormy. A toasty dose of premium goose down offers packable warmth you can pull out when temperatures drop during a belay or ski tour, and it comes with an integrated stuff sack for compact storage while you travel. The down-proof ripstop shell prevents the insulation from poking out, and is treated with a water resistant finish that causes light precipitation to bead up and roll off.

If you are looking for high quality warmth and a good price this is it. A solid puffer is essential for that winter wardrobe of an adventurer.

I got this jacket last-minute for a short backpacking trip. I was looking for a packable down jacket that I could rely on. It was warm enough to do the job in the WA woods in fall and in Utah 29-degree weather. I bought the men's size because the measurements seemed better for my build and chest--that being said, I love that it covers my bum. One of these stars goes to Backcountry customer service. I was worried that the jacket (and some other gear) wouldn't come in time for my trip and a customer service trip helped make sure that would happen. Thank you!

I like this jacket :) It does everything you want a hooded down jacket to do. It is warm, it is lofty, the material isn't too thin, and the pockets work. It might not do everything a skier may want or everything an alpinist may need. The Silver Fork isn't a specialty coat, but it is an affordable and well constructed down jacket with a hefty lofting of the 750 fill down in the horizontal wide baffles. I think keeping the baffles wide here was smart; I have another very similar jacket in terms of baffles and spacing, that I LOVED! My older jacket has at best 1/2 the loft of this Backcountry Silver Fork and it just means this JACKET is WARM. Too warm for the one it is supposed to be replacing ;( Only negative I can find might be that for me personally, the fit is a bit boxy, The Silver Fork is certainly stylish and because of the squarer shape it forms and fits someone with shoulders and chest quite well, aka myself. Small worked great and fit me wonderfully as a mid-layer type jacket witha bit of room for layering under or over; I'm 5'9'' 160 and quite pyramid shaped from climbing, I'd say it runs only a bit large - it isn't a slim fit item :) Unfortunately since it is too warm I'm going to return it in favor of a thinner jacket for better layering, which is what I personally need right now. It is a bummer, but this Silver Fork is really similar to my Adidas 750 down Jacket in terms of warmth and this BC jacket is even loftier IMO and probably even a bit warmer but I just can't justify the purchase - could maybe use it as a winter bouldering/belay parka haha :D I wish I loved someone near enough to my size that I could gift it to for Christmas!! ahh!

The jacket is warm and fits well. The only thing I would look for to make a jacket like this 5 stars is stretch fabric in key areas. Bought a couple jackets to try and this was by far the winner.
