Worth The Cost
Expensive but worth the extra cost in weight savings (minimal) but mostly in design. The spikes hold better than all other spikes I've used.

3000 miles and still going
I've used these over the past year and a half, completing the Pacific Crest Trail (2650 miles) and Colorado Trail (473 miles) with no issues. They have been more durable that I expected. I usually push them into ground with my palm but there have been a few occasions where the ground was hard and I've beat them in with a rock. These stakes are decently durable and have held up to rock poundings. They have pretty good holding power for their size and weight.

Great upgrade from standard stakes!
These are lightweight yet strong. Their best feature is that you can push them into the ground with your boot, rather than mangling your fingers trying to push those skinny stakes most tent manufacturers provide! Love 'em!

Sweet
I have both sizes. Love them. Use care when hammering. Better yet push in with palm. I carry one spare Mini Ground Hog

We broke 2 in the Keys
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I guess these are great for dirt, but we tried our brand new stakes out at Boyds Campground in Key West, and broke 2. A seasoned camper there said we needed steel for the conditions in the Keys. So...it is what it is.

Not for my application
They're lightweight and I'm sure work fine in soft soil. If your in the woods and there's rocks or roots they break

Great for softer soil and saves a few ounces!
I upgraded the stakes that came with my hammocks to these MSR Carbon Core stakes. Saved a few ounces and I like the design. I use them to anchor my rain fly around trees where the soil is usually loose and soft. I would not use them in very hard gravel or packed down camp sites as I wouldn't want to break one given the price. Excellent for my application.

light as a feather
Love these stakes! I generally keep 6-8 of these with me on most backpacks where I expect to camp on soft dirt or grass. They're as light as feathers... I would suggest grabbing the Groundhogs if you're expecting use on harder ground.

Snapped on 2nd use
Used these on the Colorado Trail and one of the stakes snapped in half on our second night out while trying to push them into the ground with our hands. Another broke a few days later. Yikes! What a waste. We replaced with the MSR Groundhog stakes which are slightly heavier but gave us no issues.

Broke from just one time use.
One carbon core stake broke after the first time I used the stakes. Another one has tiny cracks in the red plastic head also from just one time use. I cannot afford for my tent stakes to break down in the middle of a backpacking trip, so I will not be using these stakes for my trip.
